Apple's new touchscreen MacBook Pro models offer up to 16TB of internal storage, doubling the previous generation's 8TB maximum. The extra capacity comes at a substantial cost. Upgrading the highest-end M5 Max configuration from its standard 2TB SSD to 16TB costs $7,000, making it $4,000 more expensive than the $3,000 upgrade to 8TB.

The first ProFile for Apple III was 3500 bucks; there is nothing new here. It just hurts more.
As an older fanboy, these numbers (both the price & the capabilities) are just insane. I can't imagine telling young me in the 90s that we'd have a $7,000 memory option but that also that 7K would get you 16 terabytes of storage in a laptop.
Oh, my bad. I must be crazy but I always loved lots of onboard storage.
Oh I know. I guess I was just trying to be funny.
16TB is a lot of data for most 'normal' people. My Macs are 1TB and 2TB and I find that backups take a long time - I can't imagine dealing with Time Machine backups of a 16TB machine!
